Surgery it is…..

Standard

Over the weekend Lyra’s eating deteriorated to the point where all she could tolerate was a constant feed via her NG tube. This morning the ENT doctors, my husband and I decided that it was time to move forward with surgery to correct the laryngomalacia. The procedure is called a supraglottoplasty (links below). She is currently in the operating room.  It is a short procedure, but the wait is killing me. It’s impossibly hard to watch a doctor carry your tiny one away to have surgery. I am currently sitting staring at the door the doctor will walk out of.

She is just so tiny….

************************* UPDATE *************************

Lyra is out of surgery.  It went well, but she is on a breathing tube for now. We will be in the PICU for at least a day.

  1. I know it’s hard, but i just want you to remember, “Everyone has something”. Something that is different or difficult. She’s just getting her something out of the way now. She is in the best place she can possibly be, and you are doing everything right. It might not seem like that, but you are. There are days when I feel like the worst mother in the world…because I don’t have the patience to work through another 4 year old line of questions, because I gave my kids frozen chicken nuggets and goldfish for lunch instead of organically grown vegetables every day for the past forever…this is a mother’s guilt. I know you’re feeling it now, and let me tell you, even after Lyra is out of the hospital, happy and thriving…the guilt never goes away. EVER. The best way to cope is to have a group of friends who can relate and are willing to listen. I may be thousands of miles away, but I hope you know that I’m willing to listen whenever you need help coping.
